Rīgas clay to build new plants for the production of heat / material

This year, biofuel heat sources will appear in the area of Bauskas Street, Nautrenu Street and Vecmilgravis, with a total capacity of 12 megawatts (MW). In turn, in 2023, it is planned to build two houses for biofuel boilers in Bolderaga with a total capacity of 18 MW. An alternative option to build a larger boiler house in Bolderaga and to rebuild large-scale heating networks is also being considered. The planned investment could amount to more than 22 million euros.

Normonds Talcis, chairman of Rīgas siltums, explains that the company already produces half its heat using wood chips. But, unfortunately, the company does not have the opportunity to completely change the method of heat production in Riga, since it produces only 32% of the volume required by the capital, and buys the rest from independent producers: Latvenergo, Energia Verde, Rīgas bioenerģija, Rīgas enerģija, Eco Energy Riga , Juglas jauda, with main product Latvenergo, which produces heat from natural gas.

Rīgas chief urges Siltums to remember that the greenest, cheapest and most independent energy is that which is not consumed. “Therefore, we are now calling on the residents of Riga to save heat. We will all benefit from this,” Thalesis emphasizes.

The unacceptable Russian invasion of Ukraine caused unprecedented disruptions in the energy market. Rīgas siltums, along with Riga Technical University and Riga City Council, invite every resident to reconsider their habits and reduce energy consumption in the short and long term. Riga residents are invited to share their experiences in reducing household energy costs with the hashtag #energy on social networks.

To evaluate long-term performance, the company recommends introducing an individual measurement of heat supply by placing distributors on radiators. This will stimulate effective temperature regulation in the apartment with the help of thermostats and pay for the heat that is already consumed. This practice reduces heating bills by an average of 20% in the entire building and up to 50% in individual apartments.
